How to Calculate Ideal Weight
We use the Devine formula - the most trusted method for ideal weight
Start with Base Height
Base Height
5'0"
(152.4 cm)
This is our starting point
Base Weight
Men: 110 lbs
(50 kg)Women: 100 lbs
(45.5 kg)Starting weight for base height
Calculate Extra Height (Devine)
US Formula
Base Weight + (Extra inches × 5 lbs)
Example calculation:
1. Base Weight: 110 lbs (male)
2. Height: 5'7" (6.93 inches over 5 feet)
3. Extra Weight: 6.93 × 5.07 = 35.13 lbs
4. 110 + 35.13
= 145.13 lbs ideal weight
Metric Formula
Base Weight + (Extra inches × 2.3 kg)
Example calculation:
1. Base Weight: 50 kg (male)
2. Height: 170 cm (6.93 inches over 5 feet)
3. Extra Weight: 6.93 × 2.3 = 15.939 kg
4. 50 + 15.939
= 65.9 kg ideal weight
Both formulas give equivalent results!
Use whichever system you're more comfortable with. The final weight will be the same.
Adjust for Body Type
Small Frame
Subtract 10% from base weight
US: 145 lbs → 130.5 lbs
Metric: 90.48 kg → 81.43 kg
• Narrow shoulders
• Slender build
Medium Frame
Use calculated weight as is
US: 145 lbs
Metric: 90.48 kg
• Medium bone structure
• Typical build
Athletic Build
Add 10% to base weight
US: 145 lbs → 159.5 lbs
Metric: 90.48 kg → 99.53 kg
• Regular strength training
• Athletic lifestyle
